I am interested in the idea that our perception of the world is formed through many filters. What we see is the result of various influences including our cultural background, mood, conscious state and physical filters such as glasses, windows, screens, atmospheric conditions… These filters impact on what we perceive and interpret, creating our reality.

 

Our reality is only part of what is out there and it changes as perception filters impact on what we see. Through these layers we see what we already know and look for patterns of recognition.  Sometimes we don’t perceive something that is right in front of us and other times we see something that is not even there. As our perception is unique, we should respect that others have their own reality.

 

The world is very busy and complex and our perception is limited, so our mind filters information to cope. I, too, am endeavouring to extract the essential information and remove the extraneous to capture the essence of my reality.

 

Through my work my reality is explored, examined and manipulated.
